Why winter is the right season<\/h2>\n
Thailand has a clear season. From November to March the south and centre of the country sit in the dry period: sun, sea at 28 degrees, evenings that don’t melt you. It’s also when Bangkok is genuinely visitable, without the summer humidity.<\/p>\n
For a traveler from Greece the timing is convenient: when it’s 8 degrees and raining here, that’s the best moment of the year there.<\/p>\n
Which means one more thing: bookings happen now.<\/strong> Flights and good hotels for December through February start going in September.<\/p>\n
What it actually looks like<\/h2>\n
A Thailand trip isn’t one destination but two or three. The classic pattern that works:<\/p>\n
\n
- Bangkok, two or three days.<\/strong> Temples, markets, the river, street food. Enough to understand the city, not enough to exhaust you.<\/li>\n
- The islands or Phuket, five to seven days.<\/strong> Beaches, boat trips out to the limestone islets, diving, or simply resting.<\/li>\n
- Optionally the north<\/strong> \u2014 Chiang Mai, mountains, a different cuisine \u2014 if you have two weeks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
The flight from Athens runs with one stop and a total travel time of around twelve hours. Domestic connections are cheap and frequent.<\/p>\n
What to watch out for<\/h2>\n
\n
- Distances deceive.<\/strong> Thailand is not small. Three regions in ten days means two of those days spent inside airports.<\/li>\n
- Health and paperwork.<\/strong> Check travel insurance and current entry requirements before you book \u2014 not in the final week.<\/li>\n
- The cost isn’t in the airfare.<\/strong> Accommodation and food are affordable; excursions and transfers are where the money goes if they haven’t been arranged properly in advance.<\/li>\n
- It’s a country that rewards guidance.<\/strong> Language, transport, prices: with someone who knows it, the trip is a different thing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
