“Why wouldn’t I just book it myself?” It’s a fair question, and there isn’t one answer for everyone. Rather than argue the case, we took the four objections we hear most often and set them next to what travelers who came with us have actually written.
“I’ll be dragged around on a schedule from morning to night”
The most widespread image of organized travel is a forty-seat coach and a little flag. That isn’t how we work.
“Trip to Bali. Full guiding, superb hotels, a well-packed programme, an excellent tour leader always on hand, a flexible small group. It doesn’t get better.” — Rania Tzanetou
“Flexible small group” is the crux. With fifteen people you can shift a time, linger somewhere half an hour longer, or let someone go off and do their own thing. With forty, you can’t.
“I’ll pay more than if I booked it myself”
Sometimes that’s true. More often it isn’t — and the point isn’t only price but time and risk.
“Incredibly helpful, immediate responses and a wide range of options. They found us tickets and accommodation for the USA at very reasonable prices within one day.” — Chris Frantzis
“Immediate, flawless service for anything you ask. Competitive prices on flights and ferries, and good rates on accommodation from one end of the earth to the other.” — Theo Stam
“I can organize it myself”
For plenty of destinations, you genuinely can. Four days in Rome or three in Nafplio don’t need an agency — and we say so plainly when people ask.
But there are countries where the difference is enormous:
“A fantastic experience, an incredible trip. Everything very well organized — in a country where guidance is essential, Penguin had the right people to move us around, explain everything, guide us and make this trip unique.” — Demipyl
“Very good service, and a programme organized around what you should actually follow on each trip. Everything arranged in advance, no stress at all.” — Maria Bou
India, Egypt, Thailand, Iceland, Kazakhstan: language, distances, transport, prices that shift when you’re a visitor. There, “no stress at all” isn’t a figure of speech.
“What happens if something goes wrong?”
This is the objection that practice answers better than any brochure. Among the reviews we’ve received, a share of them aren’t about sunsets but about moments when something didn’t go to plan — disruptions caused by events in countries we were visiting, flight changes, itineraries reshuffled. Those are the reviews we value most, because that’s where you find out whether someone is really beside you.
“Our trip was a really lovely experience! The team have a lot of knowledge and experience and put together a very successful trip.” — Spyros Goumas
When it isn’t worth it
To be fair, there are cases where an organized trip is the wrong choice:
- When you want complete freedom of pace and the destination is straightforward. A road trip through Tuscany in your own car is better that way.
- When you have lots of time and no fixed schedule. A month in Southeast Asia with no dates calls for a different approach.
- When you’re travelling for work to a city you already know well.
In those cases we can still help with tickets, accommodation and insurance — without a programme attached.
